NAIROBI, KENYA, February, 2018 Cytonn Foundation, the Corporate Social Investment of Cytonn Investments, handed over the newly built Kshs, 12.5 Million classrooms and desks at Friends School Secondary School in Dandora.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the newly constructed classes that was held at the school grounds, the Board Chairman for Cytonn Investments Management and Ag. Vice Chancellor at Embu University, Professor Daniel Mugendi noted that an emphasis on education is important as the learning opportunities accorded to every child helps them to push further in achieving their dreams. “The government of Kenya recognizes education as the primary means of sustainable economic development, social mobility, national cohesion, and social development. It is therefore important that children are provided with a conducive learning environment while in pursuit of education.” Professor Mugendi noted. Cytonn Foundation has training and mentorship as a key pillar. We believe and support this and this is why we took to increase the learning facilities at Friends School Secondary school.” He noted.
The construction and refurbishment, has seen the classrooms increase from the initial five to a total of eight. This has enabled the total student population in each stream to be halved, which will lead to better teacher-student engagements. The school also had female ablution blocks constructed.
Pastor Walter Bulimo, Friends Secondary School board chairman, also speaking at the function, expressed gratitude for the newly constructed classes. “Friends Secondary School is here today because of the goodwill of people. Cytonn Investments became friends of the school five months ago and today they have delivered to promise. This school was built with the aim of offering hope to the Dandora Community.” He said. He further noted that the new classes allow for decongestion as well as capacity for bigger numbers of enrolment from students once they complete their primary education. “We want our children to be afforded equal opportunities to acquire an education and make meaningful contributions to this community 30 years down the line.” Pastor Walter Added.
Friends School Secondary was identified for the refurbishment and upgrade by Cytonn through a partnership with Nairobi City County Government. The upgrade is meant to help improve learning conditions for students attending Friends Secondary School.
