Cytonn believes in equal opportunities for all and through Cytonn Foundation we aim to further financial literacy and provide a great environment for people to learn and grow their careers. On 6th February 2018, Cytonn Foundation, the Corporate Social Investment arm of Cytonn Investments, handed over the newly built Kshs. 12.5 million classrooms, ablution block and 120 desks to Friends School Secondary School in Dandora in a handover ceremony that was officiated by Prof. Daniel Mugendi Njiru, Ph.D, Board Chairman, Cytonn Investments.

This is part of the newly started initiative to collaborate with schools that need better infrastructure to improve their studying environment and the quality of education all the over the country.

Speaking during the handover ceremony of the newly constructed classes that was held at the school grounds, the Board Chairman for Cytonn Investments Management and Vice Chancellor at Embu University, Professor Daniel Mugendi, noted that an emphasis on education is important as the learning opportunities accorded to every child help them to push further in achieving their dreams. “The government of Kenya recognizes education as the primary means of sustainable economic development, social mobility, national cohesion, and social development. It is therefore important that children are provided with a conducive learning environment while in pursuit of education.” Professor Mugendi noted. “Cytonn Foundation appreciates the need to nurture the youth early enough to instill skills by providing a more conducive environment for studying,” he concluded.

Samuel Githogo, Dandora Sub-county educational director noted that, “Cytonn’s move to refurbish the school is really encouraging as they are market leaders leading from the front. We are happy with Cytonn for engaging in this Corporate Social Responsibility and it’s evident that the Cytonn team is leading the others from the front.” “This is the first development of its kind in this area and will go a long way in ensuring that the government’s aim of ensuring one hundred percent transition from primary to secondary school is realized,” added Samuel.

Pastor Walter Bulimo, Friends Secondary School Board Chairman, also speaking at the function, expressed gratitude for the newly constructed classes. “Friends Secondary School is here today because of the goodwill of people. Cytonn Investments became friends of the school five months ago and today they have delivered to promise. This school was built with the aim of offering hope to the Dandora Community.” He further noted that the new classes allow for decongestion as well as capacity for bigger numbers of enrolment from students once they complete their primary education. “We want our children to be afforded equal opportunities to acquire an education and make meaningful contributions to this community 30 years down the line.” Pastor Walter added. In conclusion, he urged the Cytonn team to fully adopt the school to be at the center of steering the realization of the students dreams to get proper education and lead meaning full lives.
