While drawing from examples of companies in the Kenyan and global industry that have built known brands for themselves, Gitonga stressed the importance of building one’s brand through digital media, as this was where conversations and buying decisions mostly take place. “Digital media builds your brand and ensures that your reputation precedes you as those we trust the most are recommending us through likes, tweets, and other social signals,” he noted.

Gitonga elaborating on the importance of storytelling in brand building. “You should constantly ask yourself what you are doing to ensure your brand is getting involved in conversations around your products / services – and is it enough. To brand effectively, tell stories that create conversations around your brand not necessarily about your brand,” he concluded.
