Patricia Wanjama, Head of Legal and Company Secretary to Cytonn Investments Plc, on 2nd September 2017 attended the Lapid Leaders event at Navigators, a youth mentorship and business incubation center. The event, dubbed ‘An entrepreneur’s journey with a focus on African opportunities’, sought to give the youth an insightful perspective into the entrepreneurial space in Africa, focusing on Kenya in particular; and addressed among other things, issues on institutional weaknesses, the challenges of being an entrepreneur in Africa and what it takes to succeed in the business space that Africa presents.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Wanjama pointed out the need for focusing on business despite the heated political season for the Country, as Cytonn had done, in order to prepare the business for the return of normalcy to the economic environment. “Integrity should be at the core of every business and delivering to clients’ needs should be the main focus” she said, in citing Cytonn’s philosophy of delivering to promise. She also emphasized that there is a need for entrepreneurs to find one line of trade and focus on one niche musing that; “A jack of all trade will eventually become the master of none”.

With the attendants consisting primarily of university students and fresh graduates, Ms. Wanjama did not pass up the chance to discuss the opportunities Cytonn offers to young people under its Cytonn Foundation pillar. The aspiring entrepreneurs and business leaders got to learn about the training and mentorship program under the Cytonn Young Leadership Program (CYLP) and the fulfilling career prospects it offers.

Esther Mwaniki, the center’s founder, in giving her closing remarks noted how strong a brand Cytonn had become in the time it had been operation and how deliberate, responsive and consistent Cytonn was with its message across all platforms. She also commended Cytonn for spearheading a transformative program of training and mentoring young professionals.
