Shiv presented on the spectrum of real estate financing that developers can use to access funds for their projects, adding that there is need for the industry to share information concerning the industry for players to make wise decisions.

“Before structuring financing for any real estate development, or seeking any funding, real estate developers should focus on market research to ensure that the development uptake will be high”, said Shiv at the conference.

Cytonn’s Head of Private Equity, Shiv Arora, takes the participants through real estate financing.

“There are a number of ways to secure real estate financing. The first is through equity, which is land or cash. From there, developers should seek bank debt and mezzanine financing to complete the best capital structure for their developments,” added Shiv.

Forums such as the ISK Regional Conference are an important avenue for discussion on real estate financing and research, as they allow (i) the spread of information to increase transparency in the real estate market, and (ii) sharing of innovative ideas to grow real estate as an asset class in Kenya, which will lead to deepening of our capital markets.
